Backing Up Firefox Add-ons, Extensions And Transferring Them To Another Machine

Many of us out there use Firefox on multiple machines. How annoying is it to re-download all your frequently installed plugins and themes for every install? Well with Firefox Environment Backup Extension (FEBE) this process is not only simplified, but it can be scheduled to!

What is Firefox? 

For those of you who do not use Firefox, then first off we recommend using this browser over Microsoft Internet Explorer due to increased security as well as to allow you to use a separate browser if one becomes infected.

What are Firefox Add-ons?

One of the key benefits of Firefox is it's ability to be further customised by the use of Firefox Add-ons. These provide additional functionality such as the ability to use mouse gestures, media download manager, pretty much anything you can think of!

Backing up Your Firefox Extensions, Add-ons and Themes Using FEBE

Installation of Firefox Add-ons is a simple process, and best place to go first is via the Firefox website and search for FEBE, or click the link to it on the right.

Configuring FEBE 

Once installed, follow the instructions below to back up your Firefox Add-ins

  • Click on Tools - FEBE - FEBE Options
  • Click on the Directory tab
  • Click on Browse and choose the directory you wish to store your backups in
  • Click on the Options tab
  • Choose what items you want backed up
  • In the right hand box, we recommend ticking the option to include a copy of FEBE in the backup

Backing up your Firefox Extensions, Add-ons and Themes using FEBE

This is extremely simple... Click on Tools - FEBE - Perform Backup. This will back them up to the specified folder you set above.

Restoring your Firefox Extensions, Add-ons and Themes using FEBE

You must install FEBE on each workstation you wish to use the backups on.

  • Once installed, copy your extensions to each workstationusing a flash drive etc.
  • Click on Tools - FEBE - Restore - Extensions and then choose all the extensions in the folder when the file dialog window appears.
